“It is very calming to know that there is help out there and a way of educating (the) educators. I am grateful for the help you have given me in getting ready for the school year, and in continuing our own education in keeping my son as healthy as we possibly can!”
~ Kelly and Michael, FAAN members
Managing food allergies in schools and at camps can be challenging. Education, communication, and cooperation are the keys to preventing allergic reactions in schools and camps.
FAAN has developed a variety of resources and products to help parents, physicians, school administrators, teachers, school nurses, food service staff, and camp staff work together to keep kids with food allergies safe. Please explore the options on your left. The resources you will find, many of them available free for download, can help educate people and raise awareness at your child’s school or camp.
Remember, working together as a team is a great way to help keep your child safe. We’re all in this together!
National Poll
About half of all parents surveyed about food allergy management in schools say their school accommodates their child’s food allergy “very well,” according to the results of a recently released poll.
The C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health, which surveyed parents with children from ages 0-13, also revealed that 3% of those polled have a child with a life-threatening food allergy in school or daycare and about 25% know of a child with a life-threatening food allergy in their child’s school or daycare.
This poll also assessed parents’ perceptions of the way food allergies are managed in schools.
Trace Adkins knows just how important it is for everyone to help keep a child who has food allergies safe. His daughter Brianna is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, and milk.
