- FAAN’s Research Mission
To advance research that leads us to a better understanding of, and a cure for, food allergy and anaphylaxis and that improves the quality of life of individuals managing these conditions.
Advancing research in food allergy science has been an important element of FAAN’s mission since we were established in 1991. Over the years, FAAN’s research efforts have grown steadily and include reporting on current research projects conducted by others, participating in and conducting studies, helping recruit subjects, and providing funding to advance promising research projects.
For more than 15 years, FAAN’s advocacy, awareness, and education have generated worldwide interest in food allergy from a variety of entities, including the media, government, food industry, educational institutions, and the scientific community. FAAN’s advocacy efforts have encouraged the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to increase its commitment to food allergy research. While research efforts have improved the knowledge base in this field for scientists around the world, what has been accomplished is just the beginning.
There is still much work to be done. In the past five years, peanut allergy in children has doubled. The estimated number of Americans with food allergy has increased from 6 million to approximately 12 million, and we don’t know why. The scientific community needs our help.
To stimulate additional food allergy research activity and establish a central clearinghouse for information about research, FAAN has strengthened its research mission. Click here for more information.
How You Can Help
For FAAN to continue to fund research that will help scientists solve the mysteries of food allergy and anaphylaxis, the support of our members and friends is vital. To make the greatest leaps in scientific knowledge and understanding, we need your financial support.
Please make a contribution to research. Donations to FAAN are tax-deductible and may be made via our website, phone, or fax.
